1977: Home computers were introduced. This advancement can be seen as the foundation of the computers used today to access social medias.







Aardwolf MUD

1978: MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) launched, allowing users to play fictional role-playing games in real time.In MUDs player could interact with objects, computer characters and, most importantly, other players.



Koala Country BBS




1978: Bulletin Board System (BBS) were developed, allowing users to read news, send messages among other things. Know by some as the predecessor of the World Wide Web.



Main discussion topics of Usenet

1979: Usenet is developed. With a similar foundation as BBS, Usenet users could share posts and news without depending on a central server. In contrast they were forwarded to a variety of servers.
